Terms of Service

The rules of using the archive.

Short, plain-English, and written for an actual person reading it — not a lawyer pretending to be one.

1. Site use

You may read everything on the archive, share excerpts with attribution, and deep-link to specific athlete or competition pages. What you may not do: bulk-scrape the database for a commercial product, re-host our OG cards or narratives as your own, or wrap our pages in a competing interface. This is a fan project; it stays useful when the usage is reasonable.

2. Acceptable behavior

When you're signed in or using the Ask feature: no abuse, no harassment in Ask queries, no attempts to attack the Worker (rate-limit evasion, probing for injection, scraping auth endpoints). If we detect abuse, we revoke the session and may ban the account.

3. Intellectual property

The archive as a whole — database structure, narratives, OG card art, site copy — is © GleamingGymnast. Source data (FIG results, Olympics.com records, Olympedia profiles, USA Gymnastics, NCAA records, continental federations) belongs to the originating organizations; we cite each row's provenance. Your contributions (Ask queries, future quiz answers) stay yours — you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to operate the service and to show your inputs back to you.

4. Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is." We aim for primary-source citations on every page, but we do not warrant that every row is error-free — gymnastics results cross decades of federations, and transcriptions carry risk. If you find an error, email hello@gleaminggymnast.com with a source URL; we'll fix it and note the change on the page.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither we nor our hosting providers are liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the archive. Our aggregate liability for any claim is capped at $100 US. This is boilerplate, and it is standard.

6. Governing law & dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

Step 1 — informal resolution. Before filing anything anywhere, contact us at hello@gleaminggymnast.com and describe the problem. We have 60 days to try to work it out with you. If that window closes without resolution, either side may proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 — binding arbitration. Any dispute not resolved informally is settled by binding arbitration administered under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Consumer Arbitration Rules, with a seat in Maryland. Each party bears its own costs except where AAA rules require otherwise. Disputes are brought on an individual basis: you and we each waive any right to participate in a class action, collective action, or representative action, and the arbitrator cannot consolidate more than one person's claims.

30-day opt-out. If you signed in for the first time within the last 30 days, you may opt out of the arbitration clause and class-action waiver in § 6 Step 2 by emailing hello@gleaminggymnast.com with "Arbitration opt-out" in the subject and the email address on your account in the body. Opting out does not affect any other part of these terms. If you opt out, disputes go to a court of competent jurisdiction in Maryland under Maryland law.

Carve-outs. Two exceptions to the arbitration clause, kept so the clause is not oppressive: (i) either party may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court instead of arbitration; (ii) either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property or trade secrets.

7. Changes to these terms

When we change these terms we update the Last-updated stamp at the top. If the change is material — a change in governing law, a change in the arbitration clause, a new liability cap — we'll surface a banner on your next sign-in. Continued use of the archive after a material change means you've accepted the updated terms, unless you've already opted out of arbitration under the clause above (in which case your opt-out carries forward).
